Cafe Britannia

Wakefield House, Sprott Road, 16 Ballard Estate, 11, SS Ram Gulam Marg, Fort, Mumbai.

This cafe is still owned and run by 93 year old Mr Bohman Kohinoor – you must go before he and it becomes a thing of the past. It serves up (in my opinion) some of the best Parsi (Iranian / Indian) food in the city. Must trys: chicken berry pulao, patra ni maachi, creme caramel, sali boti, fresh lime soda

Gunpowder

22 Hauz Khaus Village, 3rd Floor, Hauz Khas Village, Delhi. www.gunpowder.co.in

In the lovely leafy Hauz Khas, Gunpowder serves up it’s own brand of Goan food. We loved the Prawn Fry on crispy coriander and onions and the Goan Pork Curry was exceptionally tasty, although the meat was tough. Gunpowder is known for it’s Toddy Shop Curry, described at ‘robust and sour’ – which it was.

Tunday Kebabs

Vivek Khand 2, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh 226010, India

Tunday kebabs are the stuff of legend all over Indian. The meat used in them is triple ground giving them an unusual fois-gras like texture and then mixed with 53 or so ingredients. Scoop them with sheermal, a rich Muglai pastry bread.
