Mumbai’s markets


Mumbai’s markets are still at the heart of the city and in full throttle at 6am every day. In Crawford Market you can take your pick from pyramids of pineapples, bushels of herbs or tomatoes as far as the eye can see. Or, follow your nose to Sassoon Market, the fish market where Koli fisherwomen (the city’s first inhabitants), bright in saris, squat, chat and shell their prawns simultaneously whilst men cart huge beastly sea creatures around on their shoulders.
